A child under 5 years old is confirmed to have measles, CDPHE and other health agencies confirmed. The child, who is unvaccinated, had recently traveled with family to multiple international locations with increased measles cases. The child is in isolation and is still hospitalized.
CDPHE said there is no ongoing exposure risk to other patients and families at Children's Hospital Colorado, but the agency still urges all Coloradans to get vaccinated.

Measles is highly contagious and can sometimes lead to serious health problems. It spreads through the air when a person infected with it coughs or sneezes. It can remain in the air for up to two hours after the person has left. The measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR) vaccine provides strong protection. Getting vaccinated is the best way to protect yourself, your family and community, CDPHE said.
What to do if you may have been exposed and aren’t feeling well
People exposed to measles typically develop symptoms seven to 21 days after exposure. Symptoms include fever, cough, runny nose, red eyes and a characteristic rash that usually starts several days later on the face and spreads.
If you were at these locations during the exposure window and develop symptoms, immediately contact your health care provider by phone. If you do not have a provider, call an urgent care center or emergency department and explain that you may have been exposed to measles. Calling ahead helps prevent additional exposures.
