The room key and entrance key are linked through a trapped key interlock hidden behind the panel. When the smaller entrance key is returned and locked into place, the mechanism releases the larger room key, allowing it to be removed.

Because only one key can be free at a time, the system naturally guides guests through the correct sequence. It is a simple but remarkably effective example of engineering solving a human problem without electronics, software, or supervision.

Brooks and Capehart on the tradeoffs of a possible U.S.-Iran deal

One company paid $500,000,000 for AI in one month.

More and more companies are realizing that AI might not be worth its sky-high price tag—at least, not without limits. One company reportedly learned that the hard way, after its employees blew through $500 million in spending on artificial intelligence in just one month.

An AI consultant told Axios that one of their clients recently spent half a billion dollars in a month on Claude licenses from Anthropic. How did the company rack up such an insanely high bill? Its employees apparently had no limit on how many licenses they could use, leaving them free to splurge on as much Claude as possible.

That means expensive AI tools could be deployed for uses that humans could easily and quickly accomplish themselves, like checking the weather, as one CTO told Axios their employees were doing.

The cautionary tale quickly went viral on social media, with users marveling at how spending half a billion dollars on AI could even be possible. “5 private jets. 2 superyachts. One whole island. Gone. Vaporized into tokens,” one user reflected. “Rest in peace to whoever had to send that invoice.”

Konpira Fune Fune is a traditional Japanese rhythm game that is often played as a drinking game, especially in places with geisha or maiko entertainment. It comes from the Konpira Shrine area and has been around for a long time as a simple but surprisingly tricky test of timing and focus.

Two players sit facing each other with a small object, often a cup or a box, placed between them. They move their hands in a steady rhythm, usually to a short repeating song. On each beat, one player either leaves the object in place or quickly removes it, while the other continues the tapping pattern. The challenge is to react instantly without breaking rhythm.

If the object is there, you’re supposed to tap it. If it’s gone, you’re supposed to tap the table instead. The problem is that everything happens very quickly, and your brain has to keep up with both the rhythm and the sudden changes. If you tap the wrong place or hesitate even for a moment, you lose the round.

What makes the game fun is how easy it looks at first and how quickly people mess up. Skilled players, like maiko, are extremely good at keeping perfect rhythm while also tricking their opponent with fast, subtle movements. For tourists, it often turns into a mix of concentration and laughter, especially after a few drinks.

6 dead after helicopters crash in Brazil with Oliver Tree on passenger list

The US and Iran say they have reached an agreement that will take effect on Friday. President Donald Trump said the US is lifting its naval blockade on Iranian ports, and that the Strait of Hormuz will reopen once the agreement is signed.

A signing ceremony is scheduled for Friday in Switzerland. Vice President JD Vance said he will be there and that Trump may also attend. The memorandum of understanding is expected to kick off 60 more days of negotiation on ending the war.
