“Virat Kohli has serious technical issues”: Sanjay Manjrekar decodes veteran’s failures in Test cricket
Although Virat Kohli scored a hundred in the second innings of the first Test against Australia, he was not at his best in the remaining three innings so far. The scores of 5, 7, and 11 are not what the Indian team and fans expect from their top batter in red-ball cricket. Sanjay Manjrekar has been highlighting the problem with Kohli for a long time, and he has made a similar statement once again.
Virat had a big responsibility of scoring important runs in the pink-ball Test but he left the team in a serious problem after falling cheaply on the deliveries of Mitchell Starc and Scott Boland at the Adelaide Oval. Starc is a legendary bowler, but he couldn’t even play Boland, who is playing his first Test after more than a year. Adelaide is Kohli’s favourite venue in Australia, but he became a walking wicket in his last Test in the iconic stadium.
Manjrekar feels Virat is unable to find a solution to his issues despite his never-ending struggles.
“His technique to counter the ball outside the off-side hasn’t made his life easier. When he scored a hundred in the last Test, I tried to find whether just the dearth of runs was contributing to the mistakes that he was making. Now, with the monkey of the back, you expected Virat Kohli to be a lot more relaxed and look in better shape, but clearly, that was a problem of no runs and technical issues.
“But after getting a hundred, he was troubled by the same line, showing that he has serious technical issues and he just can’t find a solution to,” Sanjay Manjrekar said on ESPNcricinfo.
India have fallen behind in the second game, with totals of 180 and 128/5. Australia posted 337 in their first innings and are still ahead by 29 runs.
